Overview
Duval
Street is Key West’s main source of entertainment (whether
it’s day or night). When the sun goes down Duval comes alive
with flashy neon signs illuminating the droves of party-goers
looking to paint the town red, eventually to end up, as the locals
call it, doing the ‘Duval Crawl’.
You’ll
find a little bit of everything along Duval, from discothèques to
drag shows to urbane clubs to Tiki bars to dancing all night under
the stars. Live bands blare away up and down the main drag as
patrons often find themselves dancing right out into the street.
Of
course, those who investigate the wild Key West can’t help but
to stumble onto numerous bars and nightclubs serving every type of
fruity frozen beverage imaginable. Road Runners, Mango Madness,
Pina Coladas, Bush Whackers, Key Lime Shooters and the ever-famous
Margarita are just a few of the tasty delights you’ll find.
However, there are a few establishments that shy away from the
frozen-daiquiri-Hawaiian-shirt-tourist scene and somehow coax
patrons into swallowing excessive amounts of straight liquor and
beer – though, this seems to happen at most other places too.
As the night wears on, so do the partiers as they make their way
from one bar to the next, drifting and changing faces like the
summer moon. With all the bars and tasty beverages in this town,
it’s safe to say Hemingway himself might have felt a bit
overwhelmed when he lived here more than five decades ago; well,
perhaps not, but it’s an eclectic mix to say the least.
Keep
in mind that Key West is one of the most gay-friendly destinations
in the world - just as Duval Street accommodates the anxious
heterosexual crowd, it also offers numerous establishments that
cater to homosexuals as well. Key West is one of the friendliest
places on earth and wants to see everyone have a good time.
